Research shows that daily contact with nature supports problem-solving and helps children enhance cognitive abilities, boosts creativity, improves academic performance and relationship skills, reduces attention deficit disorders, and reduces stress- helping with mood stabilization (NC State University's College of Design).

  • Tots in the Trees

    7:30-8:30 a.m. children arrive.

    MORNING CONNECTION: This is an essential time for socialization and connection. Uninterrupted play supports the critical work of listening, taking turns, expressing ideas, and exploring concepts all take place. Morning connection is followed by hygiene and a healthy breakfast.

    EXPLORATION & DISCOVERY: Every day the children have a long period of exploration, skill-building, learning, and outdoor, uninterrupted play. The day has many opportunities for the development of social skills and self-regulation. Social-emotional literacy is encouraged and supported in all aspects of the day. A healthy whole-food lunch follows this exploration.

    STORY

    REST & QUIET TIME: Those that sleep do so. Children who do not sleep can choose a quiet activity - 1/2 day children depart.

    SNACK

    Uninterrupted forest PLAY

    3:30 pm - 5:15 pm: Children depart

    7:30 - 8:30 am- CHILDREN ARRIVE

    8:30 am - 9 am - FREEPLAY

    9 am BREAKFAST

    9:30 am - 10:30 am- ART, MUSIC, MINDFULNESS PRACTICE

    10:30 am -12 pm OUTSIDE PLAY/YOGA

    12 pm COMMUNITY LUNCH

    12:30 pm STORYTIME

    1 pm -2 pm REST/QUIET ACTIVITY / 1/2 day Children depart

    2 pm-3 pm TABLE ACTIVITY/HANDWORK/BUSHCRAFT

    3 pm- SNACK

    3:30-5:30 pm OUTSIDE PLAY/CHILDREN DEPART
